Brigitte Macron to appear in Netflix hit show ‘Emily in Paris’
Lily Collins exults over French first lady's cameo role.
France’s first lady Brigitte Macron will appear in the latest season of hit Netflix show “Emily in Paris,” according to the show’s star.
Lily Collins, who plays the title role in the romcom drama, told Elle Magazine on Tuesday that the cameo of French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife had been years in the making.
“The idea of the cameo came to us when [program creator] Darren Star and I met her at the Élysée Palace in December 2022,” Collins said.
Brigitte Macron “is a big fan of the show,” Collins added. “This scene in season 4 is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honor and a real joy.” Macron’s scene was reportedly shot in April.
Not everyone enjoys “Emily in Paris” as much as the first lady. The show premiered in 2020 to mixed reviews and critiques of its stereotypical depictions of Parisians and French culture.
It’s particularly loathed in the capital, where angry locals defaced shooting locations with profane, anti-“Emily in Paris” graffiti. Nonetheless, the show is among the most watched on Netflix, and has been streamed hundreds of millions of times.
It’s not the first time Macron, a former high school drama teacher, has played herself on TV. She briefly appeared in the French comedy series “Vestiaires” in 2018, and there is a biopic about her life in the works.
The second half of “Emily in Paris”’ fourth season, including the episode with Macron’s cameo, will drop Thursday.
